Scandinavian Living
After our colorful Holidays I feel like stepping away from reds and greens, gold and glitter for a bit. What better way than to browse Scandinavian home design. All the soft tones of white and natural woods are soothing to me. They perfectly fit my beginning-of-the-new-year longing for simplicity now that the mountains of gifts, decor, ribbons, and boxes are cleared away together with the tree.
With long winter nights and very short days, light colors are important in Scandinavian homes. You see a lot of whites. But white does not equal sterile and stark. Here the mix of materials add interest. The wood paneling as well as the textiles are all held in neutral light colors. The primitive antique table is a nice contrast.
The antique "Kakkelovn" is a beautiful as well as heat-spending addition to this living room. In the old days it was used closed only and heated with coal. These days it works as a wood fireplace as well as a signature piece for the room.
