Roadtrip find: Cano's Castle
Sometimes you just luck out on a road trip and get a surprise! Yesterday we drove through tiny Antonito, Colorado on our way to Snowmass and stumbled across this unique structure. We just had to made a brief detour to see it up close and take a few photos. Cano's Castle, as it is known among locals, was glistening in the sun. No wonder, it is covered almost entirely in recycled metal materials including beer cans, hub caps and metal siding. Cano Espinosa, a Vietnam vet, started this project in 1980 and has been adding to it daily ever since, using millions of found and donated metal objects. An abundance of fragrant roses surrounded this living work of art, a cat was napping in the sun and a few chicken were scratching in the dirt. Definitely a unique experience.
