Flos Skygarden
Hotel Palazzo Zichi in Budapest is a feast for lighting design lovers!!! The neo-baroque palace was built in 1899 by count Nandor Zichi. It later fell into disrepair, but was renovated in the most amazing and creative way. The building was almost completely gutted and the interiors renovated with remnants of the old structure mixed with contemporary elements. I just couldn’t stop taking photos – of course especially of the lighting.
Above you see two of the the incredible Skygarden pendants by FLOS over the front counter of the hotel. This oversized pendant has a striking white cast plaster diffuser with a relief floral motiv that breaks the stark design in a charming way. Visible to the left is a large cluster of the Castore pendants from Artemide and (barely visible because of the reflectance) two Mesmeri sconces by Artemide flanking the doorway. Spotlights graze the rustic brick wall at the end of the room. (A few more spot lights would would have been ideal and they could use a higher light output and a wider beam spread to wash the wall more evenly, but I am not complaining. This is gorgeous!)
