Danish Holiday Deco - Simplicity Plus

The Christmas Holidays are big in Scandinavia. Just think about all the darkness that needs to be lit up!Long winter nights culminating during the Holiday season inspiring warm, intimately lit homes and lots of "hygge", which is a Danish term that is one of the most difficult to translate, but coziness comes close.

Here Sofie is doing something that scares our friends to death (since we also follow this tradition): She is lighting the candles on the Christmas tree. Before you declare us completely insane: We always use really fresh trees that are decorated on December 24th. I always admire people, who can show this restraint and only use a few beautiful ornaments. I always make plans like that, but then I end up missing the stars the kids made, "the angry angel" and other family heirloom ornaments and up they go. I love my "eclectic" tree that shows our family history.

The home of designer Trine Meincke-Utzon and her husband Peter is certainly not overly decorated for the Holidays, but the few pieces they use have meaning and history.
