Bare Bulb Look
Just as the beloved Edison bulb is saying its goodbye many designers have embraced the "bare Bulb Look". Not long ago a bare bulb hanging in a space signaled something unfinished, desolate, gloomy and the bulbs were concealed in every which way. But not any more. We now see exposed bulbs everywhere from hip, industrial bistros, urban lofts to minimal contemporary spaces.
German lighting genius Ingo Maurer gave us Bulb back in the 60s and followed his fascination with the naked light bulb with his whimsical creations Birds, Birds, Birds, Birdie's Bush and Lucellino and later Johnny B. Butterfly.
Nostalgic Edison filament bulbs with a vintage-look became the rage and are now spreading a warm light over lots of homes and restaurants. I only hope that there will soon be an attractive LED alternative to these incandescent bulbs. I love the look, but am concerned with what will happen to all the dangling cord sets when this fad fades.
