When I first saw the Porca Miseria by Ingo Maurer I was stunned and couldn't stop photographing it from all angles. This incredible fixture resembles a dynamic slow-motion explosion of broken dinnerware. Here it is on display in the Ingo Maurer showroom in Munich, my favorite go-to spot when I visit this charming city once a year.

In order to create one of these unique masterpieces the manufacturers drop the pieces on the floor or break them with a hammer. The arbitrarily created shards determine the design and are carefully assembled around the light source, to allow rays of light to escape.
