Graypants offers more than just illumination
At Light + Building in Frankfurt you don't see a lot of US manufacturers. Graypants is a refreshing exception.Founded in Seattle in 2007 by architects Seth Grizzle and Jon Junker, Graypants started a production of repurposed currogated cardboard, scraplights. Scraplights embody everything Graypants strives for: "responsible design, responsible materials, responsible production… and having fun". In 2014 they expanded with a studio in Amsterdam and has continued to expand their product lines. I was intrigued by the Murmuration system, a grouping of LED pendants inspired by the wild acrobatic flights of starlings. Each component can easily stand alone as a pendant, but grouped together the "flock" becomes intriguing and powerful.
